Not too much going on, thank goodness!
Jun. 15th, 2008 09:14 pmWell, I'm back! I don't really have too much to say, but I want to try to keep this journal in use for as long as I can.
I haven't had too much time to myself lately; weekends are like that. When I first went to college, I learned to dislike weekends because whereas during the week you were constantly having something to do and time seemed to go faster, the weekends were virtually dead, and they seemed to crawl by. Now, I dislike weekends for almost the oposite reason. I've become a bit of what you might call a "creature of solitude" lately, and during the week I am the only one in the house. I love it when it's nice and quiet, and I feel I have more independence and freedom. On weekends though, my mother, plus everyone else is around, and it's rare to find that serenity. Either there's one, or sometimes two parties scheduled, or else my mom's harping about going shopping, or to the movies, and last week she even decided on the spot that she wanted to get her hair cut, and she wanted me to come with her! This doesn't seem like a problem, except that just a few days before she was saying that she shouldn't have had so much taken off the last time she went. I told her this, and she responded by telling me that she'd changed her mind, I swear, she'd do anything just to get me out of the house! I know that staying inside all the time isn't healthy, and I do enjoy going out, but not all the time! She just doesn't understand that I'm happy as I am. Okay, so I'm not always happy, but no one is!
Phew, sorry about that! I saw it coming, but decided to leave the rant about my mother for another entry. I guess it just came out. That happens sometimes, you know? Anyway, there are more rants, on various subjects, where that came from, and undoubtedly they'll come bursting out in future entries as I think and reflect on different things, as I am wont to do.
Anyway, to summarize my weekend, which was my original entention. Yesterday there was an alumni barbecue at my old elementary school. That was fun, even though it was a bit awkward at times, me being the youngest one there, (people from my year never come to these things). Still, I had a few friends there, and there are always new people to meet from years past. We left a bit early, because it was my cousin's 2d birthday party. I personally believe in a first come first serve policy with parties, but another thing about my mom is that she can't seem to say no to anyone, so we had two in one day. It had started to rain as we left, and I was kind of wondering if it was worth going, as we weren't sure if anyone would show up. They did though, and we milled around outside talking for a while, but then it started pouring! We all crammed inside their small apartment, and waited it out for as long as we could. Finally, mom and I left after a couple of hours. I was worried we wouldn't make it home, but of course we did eventually.
Today was a fairly quiet day. My mom worked, and since I stayed up half the night last night, (I'm a bit of a night owl), I slept a bit later than intended. Then mom came home, and she wanted to go shopping for a few things. Of course I objected at first, but to her credit, she only bought a few things and didn't spend that much. Then, just as we were about to have dinner, a kid that mom babysits came to join us. Apparently, Mom had gotten a call to watch him that I didn't know about. He's 4, so he was naturally all over the place. We finally sat down and watched Cars, which I had never seen. It's okay, and might rank somewhere on the list of kids' movies I like, but not very high. Anyway, she finally took him home, and to be honest I was kind of glad. He's sweet, but I've recently come to some hard truths about myself, and one of them is that I don't usually have that much patience with kids. I hope I can work through it, as I would like to have a child someday. And to think, my original major in college was going to be elementary education! Of course, as with every rule, there are exceptions.
Well, Mom has gone to bed now, and the house is mine again, one of my favorite things about late nights and early mornings.
Well, so long folks!
